"Part of the role of therapy is to help us work through the sort of allergic feeling we have to pain."
- Matthias J Baker
People who have severe stress or trauma, are disassociated with their body and have a very low nervous system tolerance. For those who don't have words to describe how they feel and resonate with this state of being would benefit from expressive arts coaching. A person is not required to have artistic ability to use or benefit from expressive arts coaching.
Expressive Arts Therapy is an integration of as many senses as possible, mostly with playful activities like mark making, sound, and movement. Trauma and extreme stress turns off the language for a lot of people. There is something about mark making, about movement and engaging the senses that turns it back on … it’s a form of magic.
Expressive arts therapy may be used as a part of the treatment strategy for a wide variety of behavioral, emotional, and mental health conditions including:

Developmental disabilities
Addiction and substance abuse
Grief
High levels of stress
Social challenges
